_It tickles me sometimes how the most profound truth can come from such a mundane task. Bleary eyed, I started to put the dishes away, while waiting for the kettle to boil and stirring porridge, when CRASH, my mum’s ceramic dish fell from where it teetered, taking with it in an avalanche of assorted crockery, bread and eggs…. ‘Buggar’ I humphed… and starred for a moment at the cacophony of sharp edges and yolk all swirling on the kitchen floor to the sound track of porridge bubbling in the pot…. Like hoofs of a hundred horses thundering down the stairs, my 2 boys came careering in, demanding in panicky voices ‘what’s happened mum, are you alright’….. ‘Yeh, um, someone get me some toilet roll’ I said through slightly disgusted teeth, as I tried to mop up egg with a dish cloth… ‘How did it happen?’ my eldest asked…..
‘oh some things just fall if there not properly balanced’…. And in that moment, I realized, and sat back on my hunches to take in that profound truth, covered in slimy egg and pieces of broken crockery I smiled…..
